Te Whare Taiohi (TWT)
Te Whare Taiohi provides an inclusive and supportive educational pathway for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. Our program is designed to help students overcome challenges, set meaningful goals, pursue their passions, and ultimately thrive.
Based at BGI, we collaborate with Te Kura and Community Education Praxis to strengthen literacy and numeracy, while also focusing on essential life skills. These include budgeting, cooking, tool use for building, writing CVs, understanding employment contracts, and maintaining physical fitness through gym, martial arts, and dance. We also prioritize waiora (well-being) and creative expression through art.
As a new initiative by BGI, Te Whare Taiohi is proudly supported by the Ministry of Education and Wellington High School. With personalized mentoring and youth development activities, our dedicated team of youth workers journey alongside each student, providing the tools and confidence they need to transition back into mainstream education or other meaningful pursuits.
