Phase1 - partners with our mentoring programme, recognising the significance of the home environment by developing new parental skills.
Phase 2 - GAIN (Getting Alternative Information Now) allows teenagers and parents to work through a course together. This is implemented when they need additional support.
We continue to use the Parenting Inc. material adapting it to meet the needs of the families on each Programme. For the programme we have just completed we were very fortunate to have James Makowharemahihi co facilitate. As he is maori and he has a warm and relaxed manner the programme has evolved to be more culturally inclusive. Three of the mentors from the last Programme kindly volunteered to take care of the children during the Parenting Programme.
“It’s a shame all parents can’t come to a course like this. I wish I could of come when my child was a bit younger.”
“The group was positive and those of us regulars supported each other well and could discuss anything with each other – largely due to friendliness of facilitators and their encouragement to share. Video clips were great.”
