to offer inspirational alternatives for troubled youth…
Footsteps uses adventure based learning activities (Wainui Challenge Ropes Course, kayaking, snowboarding, tramping and camping) for adolescents on the periphery of society. Teens with challenging behaviour have individualised programmes designed for them and their families, with the aim of introducing different patterns of relating to the family unit. Such interventions are more successful when inter-sectorial collaborative approaches are applied – for example BGI staff work alongside the Youth Horizons staff when integrating young people back in to the family unit.
