Action Research
Link
Link is all about young people working to help themselves and their peers. It is a well-established and creative group of young people who undertake research on young people to bring about change in the Wellington community.
In 2008/2009 Link, which is made up of a core of 24 dedicated young people, developed an action research method to survey 700 Wellington youth. This process produced a unique document called ‘The Results and Finding from the Wellington Youth Survey 2008’, copies of which has been catalogued in the National and Parliamentary libraries. Link has also received attention from the international academic community as its’ research is unique in the way it is designed and written by young people.
Link is also involved in organising events that encourage youth participation and the expression of youth opinion in a way that will lead to substantial results in the way Wellington and New Zealand act with regard to young New Zealanders in future decision making processes. For example, in 2009 Link hosted a Think Inside the Box global sustainability summit that attracted 100+ young people, along with Michael Norton’s 365 Ways to Change the World workshop.
Link is a project that is dedicated to seeing real results from the research they do. It is the perfect forum for young people who are looking to make a difference in their community.

“Through being involved in Link I have developed into a confident young adult who thrives on helping other young people realize their potential. I am able to voice my opinions on youth and participation, my experiences and how it helped me.” (Becca, Link member)
